I Visited the RAFF open day at Point Cook yesterday (1/9/24), the day was bright and sunny, really nice to have a walk about at the museum
I visited all the exhibitions BUT was saddened and extremely annoyed that at the display aircraft’s hanger and elsewhere where photos etc were on display not one photo of non-whites who had served diligently during the Boar war, and both the World Wars were anywhere in sight except in one photo two women of color was exhibited . Indian soldiers., Gurkhas, First Nations People, Pacific Islanders were no where given the respect as the white soldiers! There is no mention of non-white soldiers!!
I thought the museum would pay homage to ALL the soldiers who fought in the wars regardless of their skin colors but apparently the museum does not see it fit to record the sacrifices made by non-whites at wars which were largely due to white man’s rules!
I hope the RAFF museum will rectify and include the soldiers from non-white background and give the sacrifices they made as they appear to do it to white soldiers!
I was so annoyed and disappointed I just could not stay long; even the music was all by white people during the time I stayed from around 11am to 12, there must be musicians from non-white current army members unless they are not recruited .. just annoyed and sad that even till today white man have colonial hangover
RAFF museum is grossly incomplete without the acknowledgment to other non-white soldiers who were recruited/used to fight in the wars perpetrated by white men
Factual display is a must so that generations to come can see the values, sacrifices made by non-white soldiers too during wars whose architects were white men !!
