    In late February,I left my home in warm sunny Florida to take advantage of Boston's great indoors and enjoy the Museum of Fine Arts on on Huntington Avenue again.I spent sixteen hours in two days assiduously studying its prodigious collection of Art.This review describes its fine collection of 17th Century Flemish Paintings.17th Century Flanders in today's Belgium was a very prosperous Catholic Nation.The most dominant Flemish painters at that time were Peter Paul Rubens,Jacob Jordaens,Anton Van Dyck,and David Teniers the Younger.All of these painters are well represented at the Museum of Fine Arts.All of these painters were associated with the Flemish city of Antwerp. In the realm of paintings with devotional themes,I especially appreciated Peter Paul Rubens'"Crucifixion" and Peter Candid's"Mystical Marriage of Saint Catherine".These paintings were associated with the Counter Reformation. I was especially absorbed by splendid portraiture by Anton Van Dyck("Self Portrait as Icarus with Daedalus"),Jacob Jordaens("Portrait of Young Couple"),and Peter Paul Rubens("Mulay Ahmad").I also saw delightful stillife paintings by Frans Snyders,Isaac Soreau("Stillife With Grapes on Platter"),and Osias Beert. In the area of genre paintings,I saw delightful paintings by David Teniers the Younger("Butcher Shop"),Frans Snyders("Boar Hunt")Adrien Brouwer("Tavern With Game of Bowls"),and Jan Breughel the Elder("Village Scene with Canal".I also admired a splendid painting by Daniel Seghers which is an amalgam of a floral stillife with a religious cartouche. If and when you visit Boston,I highly recommend this art museum with its priceless collection of Art.

    Recently,I returned to Boston and the marvelous Museum of Fine Arts on Huntington Avenue. Since the Museum of Fine Arts'collection of Art is so copious and multifarious,I am confining my review to its early American Paintings from the late 18th Century to the 1830's.The Museum of Fine Arts collection of paintings by John Copley is definitive.I appreciated his splendid use of chiaroscuro(exaggerated light and darkness).I relished John Copley's marvelous portraits of Paul Revere,John Hancock,Samuel Adams,and Henry Pelham("Boy With Squirrel"),among a plethora of others.I was especially captivated by John Copley's masterpiece,"Watson and The Shark".Most of Copley's portraits were produced in colonial times and/or the early days of the American Republic.I also saw superb late 18th Century Portraits by these American Painters;Joseph Blackburn("Isaac Winslow and Family"),Robert Feke("Isaac Winslow"),John Greenwood("Greenwood-Lee Family"),and Charles Wilson Peale("Thomas and Henry Sergeant"). From the early 19th Century,I saw fine American Paintings by John Neagle("Pat Lyon at Forge",my favorite early American Portrait at this art museum).Thomas Sully("Torn Hat"),Gilbert Stuart,Henry Inman("John Inman")Samuel Breese Morse of Morse Code Fame("Little Miss Hone"),and Joshua Johnson.I also saw fine landcape paintings from this period by Washington Allston("Elijah in Desert")and Alvan Fisher("Landscape With Cows"). Their fine,extensive collection of early American Paintings also enriched my knowledge of American History.This art museum's curatorial work is outstanding.
